The days before your Palcoyo excursion are the perfect time to prepare your body for the altitude. The highest viewpoint reaches approximately 4,900 meters (16,076 feet), so we recommend spending at least 1 to 2 nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley to acclimatize before the tour.
We also recommend arranging travel insurance that covers high-altitude activities. Mornings on the trail are cold, while midday can turn sunny and windy — dress in layers and be ready for changing weather, especially between November and April when rain is more likely.
Palcoyo’s rainbow-colored ridges and Stone Forest are fragile natural formations. Please follow Leave No Trace principles: stay on the marked trails and avoid touching or walking directly on the colored mineral soil.
Looking for a different pace? Our classic Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) tour offers a more demanding hike with a single iconic peak, while Palcoyo is the gentler, quieter alternative with three colorful mountains and the Stone Forest.
