Your Amazonian expedition begins early in the morning with a convenient private pickup from your hotel in Cusco. You will board a comfortable private bus equipped for the scenic journey ahead as we leave the Andean capital behind and head toward the spectacular Southern Valley.
Our first stop brings us to the impressive Funerary Towers, or Chullpas, of Ninamarca, located at an altitude of 3,750 meters, where you will explore these ancient archaeological treasures. Afterward, we make a brief and pleasant stop in the charming folkloric town of Paucartambo to appreciate its beautiful historic colonial bridge and timeless atmosphere.
Next, we ascend to the Acjanaco sector in the upper area of Paucartambo. Sitting at 4,000 meters, this spot officially marks the entrance to the legendary Manu National Park. From here, we begin our dramatic descent into the mysterious cloud forest, an enchanting ecosystem teeming with pristine wild flora, including exotic orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns.
During an immersive nature walk, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the fascinating courtship dance of Peru’s national bird, the vibrant Cock-of-the-Rock. Keep your camera ready to spot exotic Trogons and Quetzals, or even the rare Spectacled Bear. In the afternoon, we arrive at the picturesque village of Pilcopata, settling into our cozy, secluded lodge featuring comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and showers.
Following a delicious fresh breakfast, we continue our journey by bus for 45 minutes to Atalaya Port at 490 meters above sea level. Here, we board our private motorized river boat for a scenic 30 minute navigation down the river. Upon arrival at Paititi Lodge, we check into our comfortable rooms equipped with private bathrooms and showers.
After enjoying a delicious regional lunch, we head to the pristine Machuwasi Lake in the afternoon. We will board traditional wooden rafts to navigate the lagoon, which is ideal for spotting an incredible diversity of prehistoric Hoatzin birds, monkeys, reptiles, and dwarf caimans. With some luck, we might spot wild capybaras along the shore.
As darkness falls, we offer an exciting optional nocturnal walk through the rainforest. Accompanied by our expert guide, you will listen to the symphony of the jungle and look for active nocturnal wildlife, including unique insects, tarantulas, and frogs, before returning to Paititi Lodge to rest.
We wake up very early to board our motorized boat toward the local parrot clay lick. This unique mineral rich clay wall attracts three to four different species of colorful parrots in their natural habitat, offering a spectacular wildlife performance. Afterward, we return to the lodge for a fresh breakfast.
Next, we embark on a fascinating guided trek deep into the primary forest to discover the massive giant trees of the Amazon basin. Throughout this walk, our expert guide will share insights about medicinal jungle plants while helping us spot various monkey species, small reptiles, and exotic birds. We return to the lodge for a comforting lunch.
During the evening, you will have a second opportunity to participate in an optional night walk. This allows us to explore a completely different trail system under the stars, maximize our chances of spotting nocturnal creatures, and experience the rainforest from a fresh perspective before spending our final night at the lodge.
After enjoying our last delicious breakfast in the rainforest, it is time to say goodbye to our lodge crew. We board our motorized boat and head upstream back to Atalaya Port, enjoying our final views of the vibrant Amazonian landscape along the riverbanks.
At Atalaya Port, our private bus will be waiting to take us back to the highlands. We will ascend once again through the enigmatic cloud forest, catching scenic mountain vistas as we drive toward the imperial city. Our arrival in Cusco is estimated between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, concluding our exciting journey.
