Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain in one trip: experience the best of Cusco in 5 days, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, with an itinerary designed for gradual acclimatization to altitude.
One trip, four of Peru’s most sought-after experiences: history, high-altitude landscapes, and the wonder of the world that is Machu Picchu.
We welcome you at the airport and take you on a city tour of Plaza de Armas, Qorikancha, Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.
We explore the towns and landscapes of the Sacred Valley: Chinchero, Moray, and the Maras Salt Mines, then take the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes, close to Machu Picchu.
The day you’ve been waiting for: we head up early to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the citadel before returning to Cusco by train and tourist transport.
We leave very early for Cusipata for breakfast and begin the hike to the Vinicunca viewpoint, Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m), with the option to continue to the Red Valley before heading back to Cusco.
One last breakfast in Cusco before the transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
You hike to the natural Vinicunca viewpoint, one of the most photographed landscapes in the Andes.
You discover the Inca citadel with a professional bilingual guide, with time to enjoy every corner.
In a single day you visit Chinchero, Moray, the Maras Salt Mines, and Ollantaytambo, with all entrance fees included.
You visit Plaza de Armas, Qorikancha, Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay at an easy pace, before the most demanding part of the trip.
We designed the order of the days with your body in mind: the toughest hike (Vinicunca) comes after a full day of acclimatization in Cusco, not at the end of the trip.
We pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel in the historic center. In the afternoon we do the half-day archaeological city tour (approx. 5 hours): starting at Plaza de Armas and Qorikancha, then continuing to Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay. It’s a slow-paced day, designed to let your body start adjusting to the city’s 3,400 m altitude.
Your tour begins at Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, the historic heart of the former Inca capital, where you meet your guide and start a relaxed walk through the colonial streets.
The most sacred temple of the Inca Empire, dedicated to the sun god. It showcases the precision of Inca stonework, later incorporated into the Santo Domingo Convent built by the Spanish.
Transfer by tourist vehicle to the hills surrounding Cusco, with your guide sharing history and context about the sites you’ll visit.
Ceremonial fortress with megalithic stones weighing up to 100 tons, fitted together without mortar. It offers panoramic views over the whole city.
Ceremonial center carved into limestone, used for religious rituals and astronomical observations, with underground chambers and altars.
The “red fortress”: a former military checkpoint and rest stop on the route to the Sacred Valley, with views over the surrounding valleys.
Known as the Temple of Water, with aqueducts and ceremonial fountains that still work using the original hydraulic engineering.
Return by tourist transport to the city center, wrapping up the first day before the more demanding excursions begin.
The Cusco Tourist Ticket and the entrance to Qorikancha are included in the tour price.

Everything you need to prepare for your 5-day trip through Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain.
This tour is deliberately designed so your body adapts gradually to the altitude: Day 1 (City Tour, a relaxed pace in Cusco at 3,400 m) serves as initial acclimatization, Days 2 and 3 (Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu) take you to an even lower altitude (2,430 m at Machu Picchu), and only on Day 4, once your body has adjusted, comes the most demanding hike to Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m). If it’s your first time in the Andes, arriving 1 to 2 days before the tour starts can make acclimatization even more comfortable.
This tour includes entry to Machu Picchu through Circuit 2, our recommended option: it combines the best panoramic views with an inner route through the Main Plaza and the Temple of the Three Windows. The choice of circuit is final at the time of booking and cannot be changed on arrival, so we coordinate this with you in advance.
See the official details at the official Machu Picchu circuits guide.
Day 4 reaches 5,200 m, one of the highest day hikes in the Cusco region. The trail is a wide, gradual dirt path; the difficulty comes from the altitude, not the terrain, so it’s best to walk at a slow pace and wear layered clothing (it’s cold at the starting point and warms up during the ascent). Entrance to Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley, as well as the rental of trekking poles or a horse, are paid on site in cash (Peruvian soles). There is no mobile data coverage in the area to pay by card.
Want to explore the Rainbow Mountain hike on its own? Check out our Rainbow Mountain day tour.
We answer the most common questions about this 5-day itinerary.
The trail is a wide, gradual dirt path; the challenge comes from the altitude, not the slope. It reaches 5,200 m, so a slow pace is recommended. There is the option to rent a horse at the starting point if needed.
The itinerary is already designed for that: Day 1 (City Tour) and Days 2 and 3 (Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, at lower altitude) serve as acclimatization before the most demanding hike on Day 4. If it’s your first time in the Andes, it can still help to arrive 1 or 2 days before the tour starts.
Circuit 2, which combines the best panoramic views with an inner route through the Main Plaza and the Temple of the Three Windows. Entrance to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain can be added as an optional add-on (see Prices).
Three categories, each with its own group price and its own private-service pricing table: 2, 3, or 4 stars. Accommodation includes 3 nights in Cusco and 1 night in Aguas Calientes.
Yes. In addition to the group service, we offer a private version, exclusive to your group, priced according to the number of people (see the Prices tab).
The tour continues as scheduled despite light rain. We recommend bringing a good-quality rain poncho and dressing in layers, especially for Day 4 at Rainbow Mountain.
