Your Amazon adventure begins with an early departure from Cusco, journeying through Andean archaeological sites and the misty cloud forest before descending into the rainforest lowlands of Manu National Park.
Your Amazonian expedition begins early in the morning with a convenient private pickup from your hotel in Cusco (3,400 m / 11,152 ft). You will board a comfortable, private bus as we leave the Andean capital behind and head toward the spectacular Southern Valley.
Our first stop brings us to the impressive Funerary Towers, or Chullpas, of Ninamarca, at an altitude of 3,750 meters (12,303 feet), where you will explore these ancient archaeological treasures. Afterward, we make a brief stop in the charming folkloric town of Paucartambo (2,906 m / 9,534 ft) to appreciate its historic colonial bridge and timeless atmosphere.
Next, we ascend to the Acjanaco sector, sitting at a breathtaking 4,000 meters (13,123 feet), which officially marks the entrance to the legendary Manu National Park. From here, we begin our dramatic descent into the mysterious cloud forest — an enchanting ecosystem teeming with pristine wild flora, including exotic orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns.
During an immersive nature walk, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the fascinating courtship dance of Peru’s national bird, the vibrant Cock-of-the-Rock. Keep your camera ready to spot exotic Trogons and Quetzals, or even the rare Spectacled Bear. In the afternoon, we arrive at the picturesque village of Pilcopata (550 m / 1,804 ft), settling into our cozy lodge with private bathrooms and showers.
Today takes you deeper into the rainforest by boat, arriving at Paititi Lodge and exploring the wildlife-rich waters of Machuwasi Lake.
After a delicious fresh breakfast, we continue our journey with a 45-minute drive to the river port of Atalaya, descending to an altitude of 490 meters above sea level. From Atalaya, we board our private motorized boat for a scenic 30-minute cruise along the river to reach Paititi Lodge, an excellent opportunity to observe native wildlife roaming freely along the banks.
Upon arrival at Paititi Lodge, you will settle into comfortable, authentic rooms equipped with private bathrooms and showers. A freshly prepared lunch featuring local flavors will be served at the lodge, allowing you to unwind and take in the peaceful rainforest surroundings.
In the afternoon, we head into the wilderness to explore the pristine Machuwasi Lake (Cocha Machuwasi), navigating the calm waters on a traditional catamaran raft — perfect for spotting the prehistoric-looking Shansho (Hoatzin), monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, and, with a bit of luck, the capybara.
As darkness falls, the Amazon transforms completely. We offer an exciting optional Night Trekking program for those eager to experience the rainforest after hours. Afterward, we return to the comfort of Paititi Lodge for a peaceful night’s rest.
Your final day features an unforgettable encounter with hundreds of parrots at the clay lick, followed by the scenic return journey through the cloud forest back to Cusco.
Our final day begins early with a scenic 45-minute boat ride to the spectacular parrot clay lick, a natural mineral-rich cliffside. Here, you will witness an astonishing wildlife gathering as 3 to 4 different species of green parrots arrive in large numbers to feed on natural salts and minerals. After this fascinating spectacle, we enjoy a fresh breakfast before continuing our journey.
We say goodbye to our river vessel at Atalaya Port and transition to our private bus. Our return route takes us back through Pilcopata (550 m / 1,804 ft), Patria, and Chontachaca, driving up once again through the mystical cloud forest, offering one final chance to admire the mist-shrouded jungle canopy.
As we leave the lush valleys and ascend back into the high Andes, we estimate arriving in the Imperial City of Cusco between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., dropped off safely near the historical center, bringing this unforgettable 3-day Manu adventure to its successful completion.
